Not long after Nigeria failed to qualify for the World Cup with a draw against Ghana in March this year, a short video clip began to circulate in my Nigerian Whatsapp groups.
It’s a funny clip featuring the President of the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), Amaju Pinnick, responding to reporters on Nigeria’s chances of reaching the World Cup. It is also not funny in the sense that it is a very serious matter that should be taken seriously, but it becomes a coping mechanism for Nigerians who can’t quite believe what they are seeing with their eyes.
