Financial Services Transaction Brief: Verdant Capital provides $4.5 million follow-on debt to LOLC Africa

Transaction Summary

Verdant Capital (Pty) Ltd (Verdant Capital) has provided a $4.5 million follow-on investment to LOLC Africa Singapore Limited (LOLC Africa), a subsidiary of LOLC Holdings PLC, raising the firm’s total commitment to LOLC Africa to $13.5 million, after an initial $9 million investment in June 2023. Both rounds are structured as holding-company loans directed to LOLC Africa’s subsidiaries in Nigeria, Kenya, Egypt, Tanzania, Rwanda, Zambia, Malawi, Zimbabwe, Ghana, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. The capital was provided through the Verdant Capital Hybrid Fund, an $80 million fund that recently invested in UsPlus, a South African invoice discounting platform. Proceeds from the new investment will be used to expand LOLC Africa’s lending to micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), supporting financial inclusion across multiple markets. In addition, Verdant’s Technical Assistance Facility will fund Social Ratings and Client Protection Pre-Certifications for LOLC Africa’s Zambian and Egyptian subsidiaries, demonstrating the fund’s commitment
