Consumer Goods Transaction Brief: IFU and Coop Danmark Sell African Coffee Roasters to Slow Forest

Transaction Summary

Slow Forest (Slow), a Denmark-based sustainable coffee company, has acquired African Coffee Roasters EPZ Limited (ACR), a Kenyan coffee roasting and packaging firm. The transaction gives Slow full ownership of ACR, acquiring 100% of the company from Coop Danmark A/S (80%) and the Investment Fund for Developing Countries (IFU, 20%)—both founding shareholders who jointly established the company in 2015. ACR operates an export-focused roasting facility in Athi River, Kenya, producing certified organic coffee for global markets. It exports to nine countries across three continents and is the largest importer of roasted coffee into the European Union. Slow’s acquisition will integrate ACR into its carbon-negative supply chain and scale up sustainable coffee production. After nearly a decade, the move also provides a full exit for Coop and IFU. Under the new ownership, ACR will maintain its Kenyan operations and workforce while leveraging Slow’s broader resources and global market access.
